Ronald McDonald House Fact Sheet
Each of our facilities serves a unique population. The Holcombe House is generally home to families from outside Houston. The in-hospital facilities primarily serve families from the Houston area. At Houston's RMH, the families find comfort, encouragement and support from other families, volunteers, and staff who share similar experiences, during an unimaginably difficult time in their lives.
50-bedroom House on Holcombe Boulevard: located in the Texas Medical Center this House provides a warm and welcome place to stay for families with children being treated for cancer and other critical illnesses. Holcombe House is our largest facility and offers private accommodations, a House dog named Mogie, a shared kitchen for preparing meals, a special needs kitchen, a dining room, living areas, a laundry room, indoor/outdoor play areas for kids, an HISD-accredited school room, family activities, transportation to hospitals and grocery stores, and other supportive services. Families often stay for extended periods while their child receives treatment.
20-bedroom House inside Texas Children's Hospital (TCH): offers a short-term place to call home while a child receives treatment in the Neonatal, Pediatric or Cardiovascular Intensive Care Units of the hospital. The TCH House has 20 sleep/nap rooms with private baths, a communal kitchen, living area, quiet room, and laundry facility. These rooms are designed to give parents a place to rest during the day or spend the night, and serve many local families.
Family Rooms inside Texas Children's Hospital: three separate facilities offer families a cozy place to rest while their child receives treatment. Each family room is equipped with comfortable seating with recliners, a television and DVD player, and a kitchenette. One Family Room serves the inpatient Hematology/Oncology and the Bone Marrow Transplant Units and another serves Texas Children's Cancer Center's Outpatient Clinic. The third Family Room serves families in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit while their children undergo lengthy surgeries.
14-bedroom House inside Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital (CMHH): offers a short-term home for families with children being treated in either the Neonatal Intensive Care or the Pediatric Intensive Care Units at the hospital. These rooms allow parents to get sleep during the day or stay overnight close to their child during an extremely critical time in their child's hospital stay. The rooms serving the Neonatal ICU allow the parent to be in the room with their infant for several days prior to release in order to learn how to meet the child's special care needs before going home.
Cookie Corner inside the Children's Cancer Hospital at M.D. Anderson: is our most unique program. Once a week, the delicious aroma of freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies fills the air as a volunteer prepares to make her rounds. Our volunteer brings cheer to children and parents by delivering these goodies and providing a caring and understanding ear during a difficult time.
Houston's Ronald McDonald House is able to provide these services because of the generous gifts of time and financial support from individuals, companies, and foundations throughout the Houston community.
