President's Letter
In 2011 as we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we also celebrate our rich history in the Houston community. Houston's Ronald McDonald House celebrates 30 years of offering a home away from home for families with children being treated for life-threatening illnesses at Texas Medical Center institutions. Throughout this time, our House has grown from one location offering 21 bedrooms to four locations offering a total of 84 bedrooms, 3 Family Rooms and a wide-array of supportive services.
Our three Houses served more than 3,000 families in 2010. Our Family Rooms and Cookie Corner supported even more, providing comfort, hugs and too many chocolate chip cookies to count. Our dedicated volunteers donated close to 26,000 hours, which equates to over a half a million dollars of needed support while many corporations and organizations provided over 700 meals and activities for our children and their families to enjoy throughout the year.
With the continued support and generosity of the community, Houston's Ronald McDonald House continues to remain financially sound- ensuring a strong future. Our fundraising efforts are concentrated on maintaining and improving our current programs while working closely with hospital partners on expanding opportunities to better serve the children and families struggling with critical health issues.
As the needs of our families have changed, Houston's RMH has expanded and adapted its services while remaining true to its mission. To the families that stay with us, our home is more than just a roof over their heads; it is a place where they become part of a new family made up of other parents, children, siblings, and relatives bound together by common experiences. On their behalf we say "Thank You" for being a part of our mission in the past, present, and future.
