Ronald McDonald House Houston at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital

In February 2007, Ronald McDonald House Houston partnered with Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital (CMHH) to open a 14-bedroom facility to serve families of patients being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Special Care Unit (located on the 8th Floor of Hermann Pavilion), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Children's Special Care Unit, and Dialysis Unit. The House is divided into two sections on the 7th and 9th floors of the Hermann Pavilion. The RMH Houston reception desk and staff offices are located on the 7th floor.

• The 7th Floor Hermann Pavilion section of Ronald McDonald House Houston provides seven bedrooms to families with newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Neonatal Special Care Unit. The 7th floor facility offers the traditional RMH Houston services and partners with CMHH to provide rooms for the "Care by Parent" program. The traditional program gives families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit the ability to both nap and/or stay overnight in the bedrooms. In addition, it features:
  • A laundry room
  • A lounge complete with a comfortable living area
  • A kitchen with two ovens
  • A television viewing area
  • A library with computer station
  • A snack pantry.
• The 9th Floor Hermann Pavilion section is open to the families of patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Children's Special Care Unit, and the Dialysis Unit. The 9th Floor bedrooms are used for naptime and overnight stays and are available to families of patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In addition, it features:
  • Seven bedrooms
  • A laundry room
  • A family lounge complete with living area
  • A kitchenette
  • A television viewing area
  • A snack pantry

In both the 7th Floor and 9th Floor Hermann Pavilion sections, naptime is offered everyday between the hours of 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on a "first come, first served" basis. Families can sleep, shower, or just relax in the rooms until the 5 p.m. check out time. Overnight rooms are offered everyday, when space is available, between the hours of 7 p.m. – 11 a.m. the next morning. Overnight rooms are assigned on a nightly basis by the Unit Charge Nurse.

RMH Houston at CMHH also offers a unique program that assists the hospital and families with the hospital's "Care by Parent" program. The "Care by Parent" program allows families of patients, who are days away from discharge, the ability to "room in" with their patient. During these final days of admission, families get the necessary education and training as they transition into becoming the primary care givers. Due to the nature of the program, "Care by Parent" families will have the use of their RMH Houston room from enrollment until discharge from the program.
